Riders of icarus is a severe example of how strong the gold selling industry is in 2016 ,it has impacted the game in varies ways ,and have broken immersion to the point that some players are thinking that nexon (the publisher of this game ) doesn’t really care ,and wants to milk the player base as much as they can (milking true ,but the not caring PArt NO.).
Beyond the social implications, and how these boters are breaking immersion many don’t realize how these hacker, and gold selling bots are affecting the accessibility of the game ,since they don’t log off for 24/5 they over crowd the game ,causing many players who are entering the game ,or re-entering channels to be disconnected, inflating the issue even further.
The botters, and gold sellers aren’t only affecting how accessible the game is to new players, but are also slowing down players who are trying to farm for rare elite drops like marks, seal stones, crafting materials etc..., For instance farming for Khabimi’s Shadow is close to impossible duo to speed hackers who get the first hit before you even spot/realize the monster have spawned.
Moreover in some regains i.e hakanas highlands the regain chat is populated by gold sellers who spam it with offers every second ,Other spots where hackers are camping/farming right now include the cemetery in hakanas highlands ,the elite pirates near the lake of life in parna's coast ,also some players have reported hackers taking down world bosses in mere seconds after they spawn and that these hackers are apparently invisible ,and monsters can’t aggro them ,which makes sense since they are farming many elite monsters at once ,and world bosses with low level armor that has barely any relevant stats .
Although it’s nexon’s responsibility to counter bots ,it’s not their fault ,hackers/gold sellers have been part of gaming history specially in the mmorpg genre for decades now ,and they have only been getting more efficient in recent years ,For instance Games like blade and soul ,sky forge ,echo of soul are few mmos boters and hackers have ruined for many individuals.
Now the question at hand is how to stop and deal with these gold sellers (not going to suggest how to stop hackers ,because I have no idea how they do it ,and can’t suggest valid counter actions) ,First I think it will be great to not reward any gold from quests ,I know players won’t be able to use transit shrines ,but they can modify few things to make it feasible ,like removing gold from transit shrines for any player that’s lower than level 34 ,why no gold well aside from farming elite monsters ,and selling rare drops they obtain by camping important locations in maps Quest gold is a primary method they get large quantities of gold ,Second removing the regain chat from hakanas highlands ,the second suggestion is just a way to make newer players experience a bit better ,and reduce the efficiency at which gold sellers promote their websites ,Third a number where if an avatar is reported/blocked that many times an auto ban will be applied on the account for further investigation(I know this opens the window for guilds to troll players ,and ban their enemies ,but this number can be up to 90 since no guild has 90 players aside from multi-server guilds ) ,in addition to those points improving bot detection ,and blocking chats entered in the chat window if they contain certain phrases like .com ,or frequent words gold sellers enter in the chat will impact them and slow them down considerably ,and IMO the most effective ,and time consuming method JUST hunting them in the game ,and assigning employees to do it.
