I had this issue in CB2 as well and just experienced it again.
So, you find Woodland Joey's prior to acquiring the "Woodland Familiar" quest. But despite having already tamed a Joey, the quest insists that you tame a Joey. I feel that it should be able to acknowledge that you already have one so as to not force new players to acquire a second one.
